A lesson from Alisher Usmanov on how to keep secrets
You will have seen by now that the furore surrounding attempts by Uzbek billionaire Alisher Usmanov to have Craig Murray's blog shut down for posting critical comments about him (most notably the claim, currently reproduced on Wikipedia, that "he was in no sense a political prisoner, but a gangster and racketeer who rightly did six years in jail".) Needless to say, had it not been for these heavy-handed attempts at censorship, neither I nor thousands, perhaps millions, of others would have had the slightest interest in Mr Usmanov's past. Censorship doesn't work. Better still, it regularly has the exact opposite effect than that intended. Welcome to the new world.
