Dealplumber is a new coupon/network website that brings together smart aggregation with money-saving offers by allowing users to both post and benefit from deals and coupons from around the web. The concept is described here - in essence, users are encouraged to upload deals and coupons from merchants for the edification of all other users and can then benefit from having done so via the merchant's own affiliate scheme as the offers they found are taken up by other users.
It's a clever use of some of the potential of Smart Aggregation (Umair's big ppt), leveraging the network to let users both upload and find offers and including implicit user recommendations. What it isn't doing - yet - is letting users pre-specify the sorts of offers they want to receive (as e.g. BluRoute
in the UK does) thus eliminating the transaction cost of browsing offers. Nor is it letting users tag offers by value, category or value, which would let the most popular/relevant/valuable offers flow to the top of the list. So it's an application of some of the wisdom of the crowd, but by no means all of it...which is fine, at this stage of a new product, but there's a lot of places it can go to add further value to the interaction within its network of users and offers.
Update: Peter Cashmore at Mashable has an extensive review of Dealplumber along with some thoughts on their competitive set.
