Dean Ashton of West Ham appeared this morning on BBC news expressing his delight at being called up to represent his country by new boss Steve McClaren (you can see the video on this page). He was, he said, delighted when he "got the text message". Is it even remarkable to see that people are now appointed to the England first eleven by SMS? Probably not.
