Kevin Maney, tech commentator at Conde Nast's new ($125 million) Portfolio mag, brings us news of entrepreneur Dennis Mudd's latest innovation - Slacker.
The theory goes that many iPod owners have never bothered to update their playlist since first dumping their CD collection onto the device - a theory corroborated by the fact that all the iTunes songs ever sold amount to perhaps 3% of the storage capacity of all the iPods ever sold (big ppt by Umair). Slacker is therefore "something of a cross between Pandora and the iPod"; "an iPod-like device that can pull down music via satellite, store it, and constantly recreate playlists a la Pandora". Wow - an iPod that actually updates its playlist in realtime rather than waiting for the user to buy more music or sync with his PC.
So that'll be, um, a radio then.
