Not entirely sure what to make of this yet, but MySpace has apparently deleted its largest atheist and agnostic community in response to complaints from people who find atheism offensive, then restored it again without comment or explanation but left many of its members banned. This is, alas, one of those times where I simply have to concede that I'm an occasional blogger and not a journalist so don't have the time or resources to investigate the matter properly, but if MySpace is willing to cut atheist groups just because some religious lobbyists don't like atheists that's pretty concerning. I remember this time last year YouTube doing something similar to a guy who posted a video highlighting some of the less laudable passages in the Qur'an. As Mashable pointed out at the time, if social nets get into the business of censoring certain viewpoints they're going to find themselves with all sorts of problems.
