An American girl in Massachussets who happens to have the account name @theashes has had a fun few days. About a week ago her account was mistaken by a handful of cricket fans for the official news account for the England / Australia match.
Unimpressed, she wrote "This is not the account of the cricket match. Check profiles before you send mentions, it's incredibly annoying and rude," and then as the problem continued "I AM NOT A FREAKING CRICKET MATCH!!!".
So far so what, but about an hour ago Vodafone promised her some tickets for the match and a phone to tweet it if she could get there, and half an hour later Australian airline Qantas joined in and agreed to stump up the plane tickets. Various individuals have promised beer, sightseeing and company. She's since signed off and gone to bed, but it seems @theashes is indeed going to The Ashes...and of course Twitter is now awash with people claiming accounts for the world cup final, the Olympics and the NBA playoffs.
What do we know about her, except that she doesn't know anything about cricket? She likes cats, plays The Sims, is a pretty good photographer and likes English Breakfast tea because she went to London in 2008 (so hopefully she'll be cheering for the right side). Oh, and she looks like this.
